L-Base is an AI infrastructure studio. We build products that let developers outside China use China’s frontier AI the way they use anything else — powerful, affordable, dependable, and reachable from wherever they are.
Why this is worth doing
Chinese frontier models are among the strongest in the world, and — this is the part that gets discussed least — among the most affordable. On published list prices, a top Chinese model costs a fraction of its Western equivalent for the same class of work. That gap is not a promotion. It is a structural difference in how these labs price inference.
And yet, for most of the world, that capability is effectively out of reach. Signing up for the official platforms usually assumes a Chinese phone number and a Chinese payment method. Developers in Jakarta, Lagos, Karachi, São Paulo or Cairo can read about these models all day and still not be able to pay for one.
That gap is what we work on. Not the models — the access. Someone has to stand between a developer with a card that gets declined and a lab that only accepts Alipay, and make that connection work reliably. That is the job we have taken on.
What we actually do
We are infrastructure, not a model lab. We do not train models. We build the plumbing around them: billing rails, access layers, and the operational work of keeping supply reachable to people the official platforms were not designed for.
We work in the open about the trade-offs. Where we are more expensive than going direct, we say so. Where a claim cannot be demonstrated, it does not go on our sites. In a category where most vendors describe an architecture nobody can check, saying less and being accurate is a strategy, not modesty.
We build for people the mainstream misses. Not the well-served developer in a country where every payment method works. The one who has already been declined twice.
Products
This is what we have shipped so far. It will not be the last one — the access problem we are solving is much bigger than any single model family.
We are working on additional tools for the same problem: getting Chinese AI capability into the hands of developers who cannot reach it through the official channels. We would rather announce those when they work than list them here as ideas.
How we are set up
Based in China. Being inside the market we resell from is the reason we can operate at all. It is not a detail we hide — it is our entire advantage.
Small and operator-run. We run what we sell. When something breaks, the same people who built it are the ones who answer.
We will not pretend to be something we are not. We are not a model lab, and we are not an authorised partner of the labs whose models we resell. We buy from public APIs at published prices and resell at published markups.
We will not sell you supply we cannot stand behind. Going out and finding the cheapest possible source — harvested credits, pooled accounts — is easy. It is also temporary, and the temporary part lands on the customer. We would rather be the boring option that is still there next year.
We will not chase a customer we cannot serve well. If you can buy from the official platform directly, that is genuinely the better deal. We will tell you so rather than talk you out of it.
